Lucifer cleared of wrongdoing by Fifa ethics committee as Sepp Blatter awards 2026 World Cup to Hell

Lucifer cleared of wrongdoing by Fifa ethics committee as Sepp Blatter awards 2026 World Cup to Hell

IFA President Joseph Blatter speaks prior to the official announcement of the 2018/2022 World Cup host countries on December 2, 2010 at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich. Russia and the tiny Gulf state of Qatar were awarded the 2018 and 2022 World Cups Thursday after an acrimonious bidding war marred by allegations of corruption and illegal deal-making.

Hell will host the 2026 football World Cup after a Fifa report found “no reason” to overturn the controversial underworld destination’s successful bid.
A 666-page report seen by The Telegraph concluded that Fifa had acted ethically in awarding its showpiece tournament, and suggested Lucifer be compensated with “a really nice wristwatch, one with diamonds and everything” for having been put through an “unnecessary and upsetting” grilling.
Critics had cited the soaring temperatures of fiery damnation as a major concern for a summer sporting event, and accused the damned hordes of carrying out human rights abuses. But during a “fact-finding mission”, Fifa executive committee members found Hell to be a “first-rate facility”. “I could spend an eternity here,” noted one delegate.
Fifa was particularly impressed by “Hell’s well-organised system of circles where fans can listen to vuvuzelas” and watch England take on Germany in a penalty shoot-out until the end of time. One exclusive circle will even offer comfortable spike-style seating and a chance to enjoy the Fifa biopic United Passions (starring Tim Roth as Sepp Blatter) on a loop. ITV has won the sole broadcast rights in the UK, with Andy Townsend providing analysis.
Independent research had suggested that one of the principal reasons Hell was considered unsuitable was its lack of a developed football culture. In a survey of Hell residents, for example, football ranked below “teeth, gnashing of” as a pastime; but the 2026 tournament is regarded by Fifa as “the ideal opportunity to take football into new markets”.
The leaked report explained: “We examined the bids from countries in the mortal plane and found none of them could match Hell, which promised exciting commercial opportunities for soul-selling and an expanded opening ceremony where fans will be repeatedly poked with hot forks by unimaginably evil goblins, and/or enjoy a reprise of the 2014 Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull extravaganza.” The final is due to be played before a capacity crowd in Pandaemonium.

Fifa crisis: Australian police agree to look into $500,000 paid to Jack Warner

Fifa crisis: Australian police agree to look into $500,000 paid to Jack Warner

Australian federal police confirms it has been asked to investigate the payment to the former soccer powerbroker

Police stand guard as an ambulance leaves the state prison in Port-of-Spain on Thursday. According to local media Jack Warner left jail in Trinidad and Tobago via ambulance

Australian police may investigate a payment of $500,000 by Football Federation Australia (FFA) to Jack Warner after the former soccer powerbroker was arrested in a sweeping corruption probe launched by US authorities this week.
Australia’s national soccer governing body claimed the payment was made as part of “mandatory” Fifa bidding criteria during the country’s failed bid for the 2022 World Cupbut was misappropriated by Warner.
Bonita Mersiades, a former senior member of Australia’s bid team, and the independent senator Nick Xenophon had written to the Australian federal police (AFP) asking it to investigate the payment, the AFP said.
“The AFP can confirm it has been contacted ... and asked to provide advice in relation to this matter,” it said on Friday. “The AFP will assess the letters and provide advice in due course.”
The FFA, whose senior management is in Zurich for the Fifa congress, was not available for comment.
However, it has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in its World Cup bid and said the 2010 payment was intended to fund a feasibility study for a “centre of excellence” project in the Caribbean.
A 2013 investigation by Concacaf, the soccer governing body for North America, Central America and the Caribbean, said the payment was
misappropriated by Warner, a former president of Concacaf.
Warner resigned from his soccer roles in 2011 amid corruption allegations but was among more than a dozen soccer, media and promotions officials indicted by US authorities this week.
The US Justice Department has alleged he solicited $10m in bribes from the South African government to host the 2010 World Cup. Warner denied the allegations and was released on bail after a court appearance in Port of Spain.
The FFA said last year that it had cooperated with Michael Garcia, Fifa’s appointed investigator into the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids, regarding the payment and reported it to the Australian government.
Australia’s sports ministry referred queries about the bid to the FFA.
Mersiades left Australia’s bid team a year before the World Cup vote, later citing personal differences and discomfort with the team’s strategy of using highly paid consultants to influence Fifa members.
She was one of two prominent whistleblowers who cooperated with Garcia, but her evidence was largely discredited in a summary of his investigation released by Fifa’s ethics judge, Hans-Joachim Eckert, last year.
Xenophon, a long-time critic of Fifa and Australia’s failed bid, urged the federal government to denounce the Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, and request a fresh vote for the 2022 World Cup.
Eckert’s summary found some wrongdoing committed by teams bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups but not enough to reopen the bidding process. Garcia subsequently quit his role as investigator, saying his report had been misrepresented.

Film Review: ‘San Andreas’

San Andreas Movie
COURTESY OF WARNER BROS.

California crumbles spectacularly in an action movie that quickly degenerates from blissfully stupid to fatally stupid.

Of the many charges that can be levied against Brad Peyton’s “San Andreas,” false advertising is not one of them. The disaster pic promises nothing more than the complete CGI destruction of California as foregrounded by Dwayne Johnson’s jackfruit-sized biceps, and it delivers exactly that. After providing some blissfully stupid B-movie thrills for its first hour, the film suffers from spectacle overkill (you know what’s cooler than an apocalyptic earthquake? Two apocalyptic earthquakes … and a tsunami) and a fatal lack of invention in its second, more concerned with toppling buildings one by one than ever drumming up a lick of suspense about the fates of those inside them. Still, “San Andreas” boasts an undeniable sort of pre-verbal lizard-brain appeal that should make it a strong earner, especially in territories far removed from the titular fault line.
Hewing much closer to Roland Emmerich’s teenage symphonies to Shiva than to the more conscientious disaster-pic approach of Juan Antonio Bayona’s “The Impossible,” “San Andreas” is the kind of film that can imply the violent deaths of millions of innocent people without batting an eye, just so long as the five or six Californians who matter make it out with only cuts and bruises. The recent earthquake in Nepal might make that proposition a bit dicier, offering a reminder that catastrophic natural disasters aren’t exactly, well, fun. (The film was forced to retool some of its marketing materials as a result.) But as thoroughly cheesy and mindless as it is, “San Andreas” certainly isn’t glib about its central calamity, and no one is lining up expecting documentary realism anyway.
In any case, the five or six characters whose lives matter are as follows. Ray (Johnson) is a hulking, heroic helicopter pilot who segued from flying missions in Afghanistan to performing search-and-rescue operations in Los Angeles. His soon-to-be-ex-wife, Emma (Carla Gugino), has shacked up with uber-rich building developer Daniel (Ioan Gruffudd), who is busy constructing the tallest, sturdiest skyscraper in San Francisco (this bit of information may be useful later). Ray and Emma have a college-aged daughter named Blake (Alexandra Daddario), who thumbs a ride up to the Bay Area on Daniel’s private jet, where she meets cute with fumbling, flustering British twentysomething Ben (Hugo Johnstone-Burt) and his obnoxious, wisecracking younger brother, Ollie (Art Parkinson).
Meanwhile, a Cal Tech seismologist (Paul Giamatti), prone to muttering science-y gibberish under his breath while drawing lots of diagrams, heads off to Nevada to study a recent flurry of “mini-quakes.” These jolts give him the data he needs to predict future earthquakes — “something-something magnetic pulses mumble-mumble” — moments before a sudden trembler takes out the Hoover Dam. He’s just arrived back in Pasadena to put his theories into practice when the entire San Andreas fault lights up with warning signs, indicating the Big One is imminent.
Well aware that it isn’t the science that’s bringing butts into the seats, director Peyton makes the most of this first cataclysm. As the assembled characters dodge debris and do lots of screaming — the quake demolishes L.A. and San Francisco simultaneously — Peyton shows us both the computer-scaled chaos (well rendered, if indistinguishable from the similar destruction present in every disaster pic and comicbook film of the past half-decade) as well as some glimpses at more immediate epicenters. It’s the little details that are more memorable, such as the unaware, airborne Ray glancing down to see a freeway interchange silently crumble, or a long tracking shot through a luxury rooftop lounge as Emma pushes past frantic waitresses and flaming kitchen staff in search of safety.
(Shot partially in Australia, the film carves out a strange cameo role here for Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue: After “Holy Motors,” “San Andreas” is Minogue’s second consecutive film in which she appears for a single scene, then promptly falls off a roof.)
Ray plucks Emma from the top of a crumbling building in his chopper, while Ben and Ollie pull Blake from a crumbling parking garage. (For all the screenplay’s attempts to make Blake the resourceful survivalist of her little band, she’s still invariably the one getting saved.) After learning that Blake is temporarily safe, Ray and Emma resolve to head up to San Francisco to rescue her themselves.
With the earthquake having passed, it’s here that the film ought to stir up some novel perils to test and develop its characters, and the aftermath of an earthquake should provide plenty of dangers — gas leaks, explosions, fires, riots, slightly worse traffic, etc. Instead, the film simply doubles down on its initial gambit, as Giamatti’s scientist discovers that the biggest, most devastating quake in American history is merely a precursor for a bigger, more most-devastating quake that could turn California into Arizona Bay at any moment.
Thanks to this lack of tension — when two major world cities lie in ruins, it’s hard to get too worked up over the danger of the rubble re-collapsing — the film drifts off in its last hour. Ray and Emma have a few quiet moments together, though they’re largely wasted dealing with the recriminations of a needless backstory. Meanwhile, Blake and Ben develop a nervous sort of romance as they trudge through the streets, with Blake losing a new article of clothing at every aftershock. Bay Area natives will surely chuckle at some of the geographic oddities here, as the trio consult a map to find their way from Chinatown to Coit Tower, a landmark that ought to be easily visible simply by looking up.
Daddario maintains a bright screen presence, and she manages to keep her half of the narrative afloat well enough, yet Johnson is the main attraction. Best utilized when he’s allowed to arch his famous right eyebrow at the tumult unfolding around him, Johnson affects a more solemn, Stallonian presence here, and he’s as solid an action hero as ever. Still, one can almost sense the actor breathing a sigh of relief when, after parachuting into the infield of AT&T Park with Emma, he gets to quip, “It’s been a while since I got you to second base.” The line is dumb, forehead-slapping, and totally out of sync with the rest of “San Andreas.” It’s also the best thing in it.

Rangers set date for Mike Ashley requested general meeting

The Rangers board are to propose the possibility of removing voting rights of shareholders who own stakes in other clubs at a general meeting next month.
Following a request from Mike Ashley's MASH Holdings, the gathering will take place at Ibrox on 12 June.
Newcastle United owner Ashley has a 9% stake in Rangers.
MASH are asking for a vote on the repayment of a £5m loan from Ashley's Sports Direct "as soon as possible after the passing of the resolution".
MASH are calling for explanations to the following:
The Rangers board have added their own proposals:
  • To provide shareholders with a breakdown of the income received by Rangers Retail Ltd [in which Sports Direct have a 75% holding] and the payments it has made to the club.
  • To consider removing the voting rights of shareholders who own stakes in other clubs, which contravenes the SFA's dual ownership rules.
  • Also calling for an ordinary resolution to "ensure that the contractual arrangements between the club and Sports Direct are renegotiated on a basis that is fair and reasonable to both parties".
On taking over as Rangers chairman last week, Dave King said the £5m loan from Sports Direct was unlikely to be paid back soon, describing the resolution as "a non-event".

Stephen Curry, LeBron James on Collision Course for Epic NBA Finals Showdown
USA Today
As exciting and unpredictable as the 2014-15 regular season was, the NBA's Eastern and Western Conference Finals have been anything but.
With a 118-88 Game 4 win over the Atlanta Hawks, LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers officially clinched an Eastern Conference title, while the Golden State Warriors are one game away from doing the same out West. A sub-par Game 4 effort behind them, the Warriors can take solace in the fact that teams leading 3-0 in a best-of-seven series are now 111-0 all-time, per WhoWins.com
So much for a season defined by parity.
But fun as parity can be, the Finals are the game's grandest stage—one deserving of the league's biggest and brightest stars.
This year, that sentiment holds extra weight.
LeBron James is the entrenched superstar who's taken up a residency in the championship spotlight. After the Cavaliers held serve against Atlanta, LeBron will make his fifth-straight Finals appearance with a chance to capture a third ring.

Houston mayor asks for disaster declaration as floods leave city 2 dead, city swamped

By on 2:07 م

Mayor Annise Parker has asked for Gov. Greg Abbott to declare Houston a state of disaster after overnight storms left the Bayour City swamped and at least two residents dead.
One of the victims was found about 5 a.m. at 5757 Ranchester near Harwin. The victim was found inside the cab of a flooded pickup.
Police said another body was seen about three hours later floating in Brays Bayou near 5400 Ardmore. The woman's body was pushed in the current and was pulled from the water near 4300 block of South MacGregor Way.
According to the Houston Fire Department, the victims appeared to have drowned.
Jake freels lives just north of Brays Bayou and was biking in the area Tuesday morning when he noticed a helicopter circling above. Soon, another, bigger rescue helicopter came.
Freels said he saw a woman's body stuck in around 4 feet up in some trees at the edge of the Bayou, where water had submerged part of the path and surrounding area.
A rescuer dangling from the copter grabbed a hold of the woman's arm or leg and pulled her out of the tree, setting her down on a part of the path that was not underwater.
"Drug her up to the top where the water wasn't," Freels said.
He said the whole sequence took 20-25 minutes.
Police said a third person was found dead about 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 1433 West Loop South. Officers went to the scene after victim, Dennis Lee Callihan, was spotted lying near the exit of a parking garage after pushing his vehicle in the storm. Howver, his death is not believed to be weather-related, according to Houston Police. No foul play is suspected.
Authorities are continuing to search for three people that fell into flood when a rescue boat they were on capsized.
The incident occurred at Brays Bayou near the 610 Loop. Firefighters were attempting to save what they believe was a family of three and another man from fast-moving flood waters, said Capt. Ruy Lozano, an HFD spokesman.
Lozano said the firefighters rescued a woman belived to be in her 40s and her elderly parents in their 80s and were in the process of rescuing a third adult, whot they don't believe was related to the family, when the boat overturned. Firefighters immediately grabbed the woman, Lozano said.
A second rescue boat then came along and was able to pull the firefighters and woman from the water, however they were not able to pull out the other adults, Lozano said.
All the people had on life vests and authorities are hopeful that they were able to swim to safety, Lozano said.
It's unknown at this time if the two people found dead today were related to the incident on the rescue boat. Earlier this morning, authorities did not believe they were connected.
As the flood waters recded Tuesday, HFD and HPD teams searched waterways to make sure other people are not in danger. The crews also searched abandoned vehicles to determine if anyone is inside them.
Throughout the city motorists woke Tuesday morning to flooded freeways and streets, making the morning commute dangerous and even impossible for most.
The 610 Loop as well as Katy, North and South freeways were underwater in spots throughout the area. Other major roads blocked by high water include Memorial Drive and Allen Parkway near downtown.
Dozens of vehicles were stranded in high water throughout the city. In many cases, the water came up to to the driver's side windows of the abandoned cars, Other vehicles are almost submerged.
Light rail service along the three lines resumed around 10:30 a.m., with bus service along 14 core routes expected to start around noon, Metro officials said.
"Buses will run as conditions allow," officials said in a statement. "There will not be a set schedule and passengers should allow for extra time."
Park and ride buses will not operate Tuesday, and HOT lanes along local freeways will remain closed.
MetroLift – the agency's services for elderly and disabled passengers – will only provide trips that are medically necessary.
Firefighters with the Houston Fire Department said they were dispatched overnight to about 500 water rescues. Most of the calls were for stranded motorists, though some people needed help after they became trapped when they took out their small boats and explored the floorwaters. Areas along Brays Bayou near the 610 Loop were particularly hard hit with several rescues during the early morning hours Tuesday. Memorial Drive and Allen Parkway are closed.
According to the National Weather Service homes were reportedly flooded in the Larchmont subdivision about six miles southwest of the city early Tuesday morning. Some homes in Rosenberg were threatened as more than three feet of water rose in the Greenwood subdivision a few hours before dawn Tuesday.
At least 15 homes on the east side of the Hidden Lakes Townhomes in near northwest Houston were flooded overnight by rising water from a small lake behind the property and nearby White Oak Bayou.
Wayne Barnes, who has owned his townhome since 2005, said neighbors awakened him about 1:45 a.m.
"They banged on my door and said, 'it's coming," Barnes said. "Get your family and your vehicles out."
Barnes and his wife, Shirley, drove to a nearby all-night grocery store to wait out the storm.
On Tuesday morning Barnes and his family, along with their neighbors, were dragging furniture and other belongings out of their homes, cellphones clamped to their ears as they struggled to reach their insurance agents.
The rising water in the houses lifted furniture and left sofas, chairs and appliances strewn haphazardly around rooms where a few inches of water still stood. Sodden clothing was draped on cars; Barnes carefully arranged family photos on the hood of his vehicle.
A few doors down, Andrea Kazemzadeh stood amid the chaos of the home where her tenant lived. Kasamadeh wore elbow-length vinyl gloves as she picked through soaked furniture and other belongings.
"What do I do?" she asked, looking in despair at the scene surrounding her.
Floodwaters may begin to recede in most areas later Tuesday morning. But more could be possible in the afternoon with day-time heating, said Melissa Huffman, a weather service meteorlogist.
Harris County Judge Ed Emmett said highwater was reported in the basement of the Harris County Criminal Justice Center downtown. He said jury service was cancelled Tuesday and county buildings are closed. Only fire responders and other essential personnel are at work Tuesday, he added. Other county employees are not expected to show up for work.
Emmett said residents throughout the area should stay at home and indoors. If they need to drive they should use caution and avoid all high water. Efen when the flood water drains away, abandoned vehicles and debris likley will clog some roadways and create hazards.
"People need to use common sense," he said.
Municipal Courts have cancelled all dockets from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. People who are are set for court today between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. will have until at 9:00 p.m. Friday to come to the court to reset their cases.
People with cases from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00pm should call 311 or visit houstontx.gov/emergency after 12:00 p.m. today for information about whether or not their cases will be reset.
Municipal Courts staff should contact their supervisor for reporting instructions.
Houston ISD, the area's largest school district, initially said classes would be delayed by two hours, posting the alert on Twitter at 4:33 a.m. About half an hour later, the district announced that schools would be closed.
Students in Houston ISD and other area districts that cancelled school Tuesday due to bad weather will not have to make up the missed day.
Texas Education Commissioner Michael Williams announced Tuesday afternoon that he would grant waivers to all the affected districts, exempting them from having to reschedule classes. The state typically requires districts to make up two missed days before waivers are issued.
Initial damage reports included flooding at HISD's Liberty High School in the Gulfton area in west Houston and some roof leaks, according to district spokeswoman Holly Huffman.
Most of the area's other large districts also cancelled classes.
METRO announced morning transit services were canceled Tuesday and that service would resume once conditions improved.
Runoff from heavy rainfall brought three creeks -- South Mayde Creek, Rummel Creek and Brickhouse Gully -- beyond their banks, the Harris County Flood Control District reported late Monday. Several are near bankful, including Willow Creek, Little Cypress Creek, Keegans Bayou and Little White Oak Bayou.
Wesley McCully was one of many drivers stranded by the storms Tuesday morning. He parked his car under an Interstate 10 overpass near the Beltway. He figured he'd be there for a couple of hours.
He was trying to get home, he lives off of Wilcrest, but couldn't get off the freeway. Feeders along several spots of the busy freeway, including at Bunker Hill, Shepherd and TC Jester, made for dangerous driving.
"This is the worst rain I've ever driven in before in my entire life," said McCully, his T-shirt drenched. "This is the only time I've had to pull over because it's so dangerous right now."
Willow Villarreal, spent eight hours in his vehicle trying to get from Montrose to his home in Oak Forest.
The proprietor of Willow's Texas BBQ at Grand Prize Bar left the bar once all the smart phones in the bar began howling with weather alerts.
"It was crazy out there with the lightning and the phones so I decided to make it home as quick as I could," Villarreal says. His own phone was not in service, to the worry of his girlfriend at home who had no knowledge of his whereabouts as frightening news began dominating the airwaves.
He used US-59 South to make his way to 610 North, only to be diverted by high water to the corner of Ella Boulevard near a Lowe's location. He heard from a man at a gas station that officials conducting a water rescue in a paddle boat where hitting cars with paddles beneath an overpass.
Villarreal finally made it home via I-45 sometime before 6 a.m.
Matt Toomey, the owner of Boomtown Coffee in the Heights off 19th Street said Tuesday morning that his shop took on at least two inches of water overnight. After doing some cleanup this morning Boomtown was open for business and slinging coffee for locals.
He wasn't on site but his friend who owns Heights Cigar Lounge was keeping tabs on shops in the popular shopping district.
Toomey, who also owns The Honeymoon Café & Bar, has another worry at the moment.
"I can't get to the storage where I keep all of my coffee," he says.
Big rig drivers were taking it slow on the feeder roads along the Northwest Freeway near Gessner, another dangerous spot. Water covered the roads, sloshing as it came up halfway to the mammoth wheels of the trucks. Several of the bright orange construction barrels had tipped over and were floating in the water.
And in the Memorial area, lightning struck an apartment late Monday, sparking a two-alarm fire, officials said.
No injuries were reported in the fire at the Country Place Apartments, 800 Country Place, near Memorial and North Dairy Ashford. Houston Fire Department officials reported that the fire, which broke out about 9:44 p.m., caused significant damage to an apartment.

Shooting guard Seth Curry, the younger brother of Golden State's Stephen Curry, is expected to join the New Orleans Pelicans summer league team that will participate in Las Vegas this upcoming July.
Curry, who played at Duke, went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft. He was extended a 10-day contract with the Phoenix Suns this season but was not signed to a second 10-day deal after playing in just two games and not scoring a point. He also played in the NBA Development League with Erie BayHawks.
Last year, Curry played for the Orlando Magic in the Orlando Summer League and for the Phoenix Suns in the Las Vegas Summer League. During the 2013-14 season, Curry, 6 feet 2, 185 pounds, played briefly with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Memphis Grizzlies.
After summer league, if Curry performs well, he could be signed to a non-guaranteed contract to participate in next fall's training camp to earn a roster spot for the regular season.
The Pelicans are seeking a new head coach to replace Monty Williams, who was fired on earlier this week.
Curry's brother, Stephen, won the league's MVP award and helped the Warriors swept the Pelicans in four games in their first-round series last month.
